Before being a spice, paprika is first and foremost a variety of pepper. Paprika, Sweet pepper, Pimenton or Pepper, are some of the names given to this fruit. In France, the term paprika more deliberately refers to the spice, in the form of a fine, intense red powder. The term comes to us from the Hungarians who made the spice famous throughout the world, but it is the Spanish who consume it the most for their dishes. Profile Paprika can vary in taste from very mild to very spicy depending on the variety grown. At Nomie, we offer very slightly spicy paprika, with an intensity close to Espelette pepper. Its flavor is that of red peppers picked when fully ripe. It is fruity, a little tomatoy. To choose it well, you must rely on its smell and its bright red color, a sign of freshness and a guarantee of quality. No more streaks of red powder on the edges of plates, a beautiful paprika has its place in the preparation of the dish. Please note that there is also paprika smoked with green oak wood which has become very popular in recent years, or simply sweet paprika which is not spicy at all. We offer strong paprika from two Spanish producers in our store. These two sisters are the 3rd family generation to produce authentic paprika using traditional methods specific to Pimentón de la Vera AOC. We also offer their smoked paprika and their sweet paprika. INSPIRATIONS, IDEAS AND RECIPE SUGGESTIONS: Use Paprika is found in most cuisines around the world today. In India, it colors and flavors tandoori masala, in Hungary it flavors goulash, and in the United States, it is found in most barbecue spice mixes. Ideal with meat, strong paprika also works very well with fish for a subtle land-sea accord. DID YOU KNOW? The term “paprika” is of Hungarian origin. Its root comes from the Greek “peperi” and the Latin “piper” which both refer to pepper (piper nigrum). Moreover in English, the term “pepper” refers to peppers (green pepper) and chili peppers (hot pepper) as well as peppers (black pepper). 100ml glass jar, 2-year shelf life
